MEND Programme Assistant

MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition...Do it!) is a social enterprise which was established in 2004 to enable a significant, measurable and sustained reduction in global childhood overweight and obesity levels. Its flagship intervention, the MEND Programme was developed at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the Institute of Child Health, University College London and is one of the UK's most innovative and effective obesity prevention and treatment programmes for 7 to 13 year old children (and their parents). MEND is a 10-week multi-component healthy lifestyle programme encompassing education on healthy eating, fun games to stimulate an active interest in physical activity and behaviour modification techniques to boost self-confidence.

The role
The MEND Programme Assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist the MEND Mind, Nutrition and Exercise Leader(s) in successfully delivering the 20 session MEND Programme and all associated activities. The MEND Programme Assistant will report directly to the MEND Mind, Nutrition and Exercise Leaders

Main Responsibilities
In this post you will be responsible for a wide range of duties including, but not limited to the following:

• Required to assist in the delivery of the MEND Programme wherever necessary. They will be required to attend all 20 MEND sessions for two hours

• This will require approx 46 hours per MEND Programme, broken down as follows:

35 hours over 20 MEND sessions (some are one hour only sessions) this includes Pre-programme measurements and Post-programme measurement

6 hours of session set up and tidy up time

4-5 hours of data entry into OMMS

Optional: can assist with the Group reward after the programme ends

• Assists the Mind and Nutrition Leader(s) in all aspects of delivery of the classroom sessions

• Ideally the Programme Assistant would have some experience working with groups would be ideal and possess the confidence to talk to parents and children.

• Assistants should be prepared to support leaders as needed. Someone who is organised and punctual that can assist in the collection and recording of children’s data at the Measurement sessions, set up the room and prepare handouts, kit items etc

• Can double as the Exercise Assistant
