MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition...Do it!) is a social enterprise
which was established in 2004 to enable a significant, measurable
and sustained reduction in global childhood overweight and obesity
levels. Its flagship intervention, the MEND Programme was developed
at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the Institute of
Child Health, University College London and is one of the UK's most
innovative and effective obesity prevention and treatment
programmes for 7 to 13 year old children (and their parents). MEND
is a 10-week multi-component healthy lifestyle programme
encompassing education on healthy eating, fun games to stimulate an
active interest in physical activity and behaviour modification
techniques to boost self-confidence.
The role
The Programme Manager is an essential role for each MEND programme.
The role is required to oversee the running of the MEND Programme,
lead the administration of the Programme and provide the main
contact between the MEND delivery teams and MEND Central.
Main Responsibilities
• Process the registering of families for the MEND
programmes
• Maintain an up-to-date electronic database of applicants /
participants.
• Communicate and correspond with parents and health
professionals as required.
• Identify and manage the MEND delivery team, and liaise with
MEND Central to arrange training for staff
• Identify and manage the Programme venue
• Develop partnerships with health visitors, other community
staff, schools etc
• Oversee the running of the MEND Programme, including
organising Programme related sessions e.g. the Supermarket Tour
• Organise and participate in pre and post evaluation sessions
for each programme and ensure data is complete for all
participants
• Enter all the data onto the MEND Central ‘OMMS’ system soon
after evaluation sessions are completed
• Organise MEND Graduate Days / sessions in liaison with Theory
and Exercise Leaders
• Attend, and if necessary be the lead organiser, at the MEND
Graduates Reward Days
• Organise exit strategies for the MEND Programme
participants
• Develop a sustainability strategy to encourage MEND graduates
to continue their lifestyle changes
• Manage the MEND budget
• Facilitate and service regular local MEND Team meetings to
support the ongoing development of MEND
• Maintain a good understanding of the Health & Safety
policy and be aware of responsibilities.
